One of my growers pointed out an interesting pattern on his almond trees.

I have never run across this before and wondered if anyone has seen this and know what causes it.

Circular to elliptical whitish areas (most are 1/2" to 5/8" diameter) on the surfaces of secondary and tertiary scaffolds. It is rarely seen above 9 or 10 ft high and is more prevalent on the shady side of the limbs.

It looks like some kind of bacteria or fungus is feeding on the green algae growth on the bark.

We have used fungicides this year and in the past for brown rot and shot hole. I see no threat to the trees, no symptoms of it being a problem.
