To the Pesticide Use Enforcement division of the Fresno County Agricultural Commissioner office.
I have a question about use of Success and Entrust in pomegranate orchards.
The Success and Entrust labels include a category "Tropical Tree Fruits" with the phrase "including, but not limited to", followed by a long list of fruits, but not pomegranate. Can pomegranate qualify as a tropical tree fruit? These two spinosad products are low risk pesticides and would be very useful in pomegranates, which have a very short list of registered chemicals.
I asked the local Dow Agrisciences representative this question, and he said that your office would make this decision.
Thanks very much,

The determination if a material is registered for use on a specific commodity is defined by the label. The Spinosad labels have a very broad commodity use definition. Normally I would be able to access the California Department of Pesticide Regulation’s website, where they list which commodities are registered for use on what pesticides, but their website is “under repair” and inaccessible. I was finally able to speak to someone, by phone, in Sacramento for an answer. Pomegranates are listed as active as a use for Success. In other words, yes you can use Success on pomegranates.

Note: the Entrust label reads the same as the Success label, so Mr. Guerra's approval of Success on pomegranates also applies to Entrust.
