2007 Codling Moth biofix information

Second male flight

Based on a March 12 first biofix and 1060 degree days, the second biofix is expected May 26 in the Reedley-Parlier area.

May 21: near Parlier, a plum trap jumped to 13 from 0 the week before.  Other traps in the Reedley-Parlier area did not confirm this.  One plum trap in Reedley dropped to 35 on May 22 from 57 the week before.  (It's next to an abandoned pear orchard).

       Devin Carroll

May 22: near Parlier, found these numbers: (5-18) 10, (5-22) 67, (5-25) 14, (5-19) 9.  It appears the biofix is on or before May 22.

May 28: we are finding a few tiny new CM strikes on organic apples.

First generation indicators

April 28.  First CM egg in Contra Costa County.  Found the first in Brentwood pears; orchard had 10% CM damage last year

First male flight

March 12.  Two traps on a plum ranch north of Reedley each had 1 moth.  Traps placed March 10.  This location is next to a pear orchard, and is usually the first

place I catch codling moth each year.  March 12 is unusually early.

         Devin Carroll

March 16.  Walnuts, Russel and I5 - 2 traps out of four had moths on 3/16. Traps set 3/10.
         Sara Savary

March 24.  South of Parlier.  1 moth in apple trap.  Last checked March 23.  This trap is not far from an orchard with pheromone disruption.

(Reported March 29) All of my CM traps are in walnuts in the Stanislaus County and mostly around the Modesto area, and first (a few) moths were caught

         this week.

March 23. 1st moths in apple orchard in Ripon.  Have checked all my other traps from Northern Merced county to Salida in Walnuts and got zero.

Except today (March 29) got 1 moth in walnuts near Waterford.

March 24: I caught my first CM moth in Contra Costa County.  These were in apples & pears, using combined pheromone/da lures, to they could

        have been males or females.

March 19:  3/4 of my traps - in apples and walnuts-  had caught at least 1-2 moths between 3/16-19.  A couple of apple orchards had double digits. Similar

catches on the 22nd. By 3/26 they were all going like crazy - averaging about 3/day. In Brentwood (Contra Costa). Should be similar to Stockton/Lodi -

but we are often a little bit earlier.
        Janet Caprile

(Reported March 29) I had 1 CM last week, and 4 CM this week out of 4 pheromone traps in Sonoma county apples.
